that sinking feeling

After several weeks of a light schedule at work, all of a sudden I have a weekend assignment on top of a busy weekend with the family.  So that means I have only managed 9 miles this weekend on 2 runs in to work.  With a 20 miler coming up in mid-February, I really need another long run.  I hope it happens next weekend, or I will have to run to the 4-miler I am doing with the club on Super Bowl Sunday.

Why?

Why Fat Elk?  Because I told my friend that my Native American name would be "Running Bear" and he said that it would be "Fat Elk".

Little Lies

The last two days have been cold, like under 10 degrees.  On my runs to work, when I went over the Brooklyn Bridge, I could see the shadow of the steam I was blowing out.  That's one of those unexpectedly cool things that make you feel like a badass for no reason and make you run slightly faster.

Hello

This is a blog about my running.  Are there already lots of running blogs? Yes.  Are they of interest to anyone?  Well, lots of people would say no, but I know that's not true.  Running is very much about finding your own way, from shoes to pace.  People's roads have always been very interesting to me, and I want to share mine.

I generally run out of Brooklyn.  I'm not a fast runner, but I'm not very slow.  I can be competitive, but I think I've learned how to dial it back when I need to.  I'm a bigger runner than most (currently 215 pounds or so).  I am cautiously minimalist in foot wear.  I race with the Roger Smith Hotel team some of the time.  I am also a husband and a dad.
